Faux Wood-Burning Technique

Welcome to another Stamping with Friends Blog Hop! We’re featuring techniques on this hop, which is such a FUN topic! I’m trying a new-to-me technique called the Faux Wood-Burning technique. Isn’t it cool?! It is impressive AND easy. My favorite kind of project. 🙂

To do this technique you will need: watercolor paper, one of our water painters (or paintbrush) and Early Espresso ink. Use a line art stamp, such as this wonderful one from Jar of Flowers.

Faux Wood Burning Technique

To do the faux wood-burning you just stamp your image in the Early Espresso ink straight onto dry watercolor paper. Take a wet water painter and drag from the center to the edges to drag the ink across the white parts of the paper. You can go over the entire paper or just around the image. I swiped from the center out to each side, only going left and right. Each time you do this the colors will bleed slightly differently to create a unique look on every piece. Try to just go over each area with one swipe so you don’t muddy your image too much.

When your paper is dry, run it through a wood textured embossing folder. That’s it! I used the Timber 3D embossing folder from the new July-December Mini Catalog. We used to carry Pinewood Planks embossing folder, but I really like that Timber 3D doesn’t have lines through it. Doesn’t it look amazing for hardly any effort?!

Finishing up the card

Then I just added this to a thick Basic White card base with DSP and two Early Espresso mats. I used DSP from the annual catalog, Beauty of the Earth. This paper has some really nice fall, winter and leafy patterns.

For my embellishments, I picked one of the colors used in the DSP: Misty Moonlight. I used Flowers for Every Season Misty Moonlight and Silver Baker’s Twine and some Misty Moonlight enamel dots, which I’m just now realizing are retired. Ha! We do have In Color square gems in Misty Moonlight that would also look good here, or you could color rhinestones or pearls with Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Blends. I love how the Blends help us match our embellishments if we don’t have the right color in our stash. While I’d love to buy every embellishment that’s just not realistic, is it? Hahaha!

I also added a sentiment from Celebrate Sunflowers in white embossing on an Early Espresso strip, popped up with dimensionals. Celebrate Sunflowers is the ultimate complimentary set to use with Jar of Flowers.

I also decorated the inside and the envelope. May as well finish the whole thing when your stamps are out! I also put my cards in clear envelopes so they are protected until I’m ready to mail or sell them. Are you going to try this technique? Leave a comment below.

Ghirardelli Treat Packages

Do you need table favors, gifts for teachers, birthday treats or fun giveaways at work? I’ve got you covered! I made these treats Halloween-themed, but you can really make them for any occasion.

Instructions:

Cut a piece of DSP 3″ x 6″. For the treat to open on the side (as shown), have the 6″ side be “up.” To open from the bottom (ideal for table favors with names) then make sure you have the 3″ side be “up.”

Ghirardelli treats are nearly 3/8″ of an inch thick so that’s what the gusset should be. Place DSP in the trimmer long side up with the left side of the paper on the 3″ mark (in half). Move it over to the left 3/16″ and score and then back to the 3″ mark and to the right another 3/16″ to score. This gives a gusset of exactly 3/8″. Fold on these score lines.

Use a 1/4″ hole punch to punch 2 holes in the “open” side of the treat to tie it closed with a ribbon. Cut 10″ of ribbon, which will make a nice small bow. If you like bigger bows use 12″ or more of ribbon.

Use Stamp ‘n Seal+ on the inside to secure the treat down. Close the front flap, feed the ribbon through the back of the holes and tie the bow. Use the Everyday Label punch in coordinating cardstock colors to your DSP and decorate to suit your needs. I used stamps from the Cutest Halloween stamp set and the Halloween punch (or fussy cutting) to get images from the DSP. In the tutorial video, I used the cat punch to add a fun twist to this collection. There are also BONUS extra treats for other occasions shown at the end of the video. Fun Swing Fold Card with Berry Blessings

I am LOVING this free Berry Blessings stamp set and even more so the gorgeous paper that comes free with it in a big fun freebie bundle. I decided to do it justice and create a fun fold card with it. It just so happens to be National Blueberry Pancake Day today, ha! How fun is that? If you’d like these items for free too all you need to do is place an order of $100 or more and choose them as your free gift.

Card base: 8-1/2″ x 5-1/2″, scored on the long side at 4-1/4″ and 2-1/8″

DSP layers: 4″ x 5-1/4″ and 1-7/8″ x 5-1/4″

Layering die cuts: 3 large (2 colored and 1 white) and 2 smaller (white) I used the Stitched Rectangle Dies and used the middle two sizes of the 8 layering rectangles. (Not the three largest or the three smallest: the center two!) You can experiment with different shape dies.

I hope you play along with me! I would love to see your swing fold card either with these items or what you have on hand. You can see a video tutorial on YouTube.

If you are interested in the Berry Delightful Bundle I would be so grateful for your business. You can shop by clicking any item below. Please use the host code JTVK4JCJ for the month of January 2021 if your order is less than $150. Q: I don’t have all the stamps.  Will I still be able to make the projects for the class?

A: Most often, yes.  Feel free to use any stamps and ink you already own.  I will include tips on using substitutions. You are always welcome to add the specific stamp set or other items (such as adhesives or ink pads) that you need to complete the class to any class registration. You may use the .pdf and videos as a guide to create your own .pdf and videos. CASEing (copy and share everything) is part of the joy of finding inspiration online, but please give me written credit on your own tutorial if you are using my exact card designs. FYI, I’d love to see what your versions look like! Send me an email!
